Local Leaders and Legislators Gather for Annual Legislative Breakfast
Chamber Event Brings Focus to Rural Issues, Business Needs, and Policy Updates

The Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Legislative Breakfast at Stonehedge Golf Course & Event Center on Tuesday, bringing together business professionals, elected officials, and community members for a timely conversation on policy and rural priorities.

The event opened with a warm welcome from Chamber President Gina Suydam, who thanked presenting sponsor Patriots Cove and supporting partners Williams and Northeast Data. Attendees stood in unity for the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Jeff Swire of Patriots Cove, followed by a video presentation showcasing the organization’s mission to support veterans and first responders through outdoor healing experiences. Swire was joined by members of local veterans’ organizations and shared brief, heartfelt remarks with the crowd.

As the legislative session continues in full swing, several elected officials were unable to attend in person, including Representative Tina Pickett, who extended an open invitation to visit her Tunkhannock office. Video messages from U.S. Senator Dave McCormick and U.S. Congressman Dan Meuser were shared to provide updates from Washington, D.C.

The heart of the morning centered around a panel discussion moderated by Mathew Shaffer, Immediate Past Chairman of the Chamber Board. Panelists included Pennsylvania State Senator Lisa Baker; Matt Perricone, Chief of Staff for Congressman Meuser; Nate Gerace, Northeast Regional Director for Senator McCormick; and Drew Popish, Northeast Regional Director for Governor Josh Shapiro.

The panel explored a range of critical issues, including the future of treatment courts in Pennsylvania, highlights of the Governor’s proposed state budget, updates on small business tax policies, and the impacts of international tariffs on local enterprises. Panelists also discussed opportunities in workforce development, the importance of broadband and infrastructure investment in rural counties, and how chambers like Wyoming County’s can continue to serve as a valuable partner in legislative advocacy and community engagement.

The conversation was candid and informative, offering attendees the chance to hear directly from those shaping policies that impact the local economy and quality of life. As the panel concluded, guests were encouraged to continue the conversation and engage with legislators following the event.

The Legislative Breakfast remains a cornerstone of the Chamber’s commitment to fostering dialogue between public officials and the business community—a space where collaboration leads to progress for Wyoming County and beyond.
