Tunkhannock Area School District

Nestled by the Susquehanna River in Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Wyoming County is the highly respected, progressive Tunkhannock Area School District. Living proof that bigger is better, Tunkhannock Area is the largest school district in Bradford, Susquehanna, Sullivan and Wyoming counties and has the most to offer in both academic and extracurricular programs. The district has modern facilities including a recently renovated high school building which was completed in 2002. A state-of-the-art middle school that was completed in September of 1999, houses grades five through eight.

 

The Mehoopany Elementary School which was built in 1996 was destroyed by fire in April of 2002. The new structure opened on the same site in 2003. Three other elementary schools have been constructed since 1972.

 

The athletic programs have benefited from the recent construction of an all-weather track, tennis courts, a softball field and a field hockey field. Renovations at the football stadium, the high school pool, wrestling room, baseball field and weight training facility have been completed. Approximately 3100 students are enrolled in the Tunkhannock Area School District, which includes four elementary buildings (K-4), the middle school (5-8) and the high school (9-12). The four elementary centers are located in Evans Falls, Mill City, Mehoopany and Tunkhannock, while the middle and high schools are both located in Tunkhannock.

 

The primary objectives of the educational program provided by the Tunkhannock Area School District are adequate training for citizenship in a democratic society and economic sufficiency in the world of work. To attain these goals, the responsibilities for providing the program and making it function effectively belong not only to the Board of Education and instructional, administrative staff but in the broadest sense to the student div and the citizens of the community.


Lackawanna Trail School District

Since 1956, Lackawanna Trail School District provided quality educational environment Wyoming County students, offering a challenged secure atmosphere in which to develop to their fullest potential. Two schools comprise the facilities’ Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center a modern facility for kindergarten through sixth grade students, and the recently renovated Lackawanna Trail Junior/Senior High for seventh through 12th grade students.

 

In addition to several service-learning community-service programs, Lackawanna offers a wide array of activities for students including student council, drama program several different sports, many academic and social clubs, Students Against Drunk Driving (SAC and National and Junior National Honor Society). The district also provides its students with many technology-based learning opportunities, including Compass Learning software for elementary students. PC labs and wireless systems in both school facilities, and Virtual Classroom software The junior/senior high school has also recently acquired a 24-station mobile computer lab.


Keystone College

Keystone College is a fully accredited, independent, private college committed to providing education in the liberal arts tradition in an academic setting that fosters integrity, civility, and curiosity. Situated on a 270-acre rural campus in La Plume, Pa., Keystone currently serves 1,700 students and offers 32 associate and baccalaureate degrees along with a number of certificates. While most students are from Northeastern Pennsylvania, Keystone’s enrollment includes students from across the country and the world. Lackawanna College maintains several locations in northeastern and central Pennsylvania as part of our mission to help educate and improve the lives of all our students. Students who attend the Lackawanna College Tunkhannock Center will be able to earn their degree completely in Tunkhannock for certain majors or start in Tunkhannock and finish at our Scranton campus to complete their full requirements for other majors. The Tunkhannock Center is located in the Tioga West Plaza on business Route 6. Students have access to dedicated classroom space and a computer lab. Associate degree and certificate programs available in Tunkhannock include business, professional studies, human services, criminal justice, and petroleum and natural gas. The Tunkhannock Center provides high-quality education for students located in Wyoming, Luzerne, Lackawanna, Bradford, Sullivan, and Susquehanna counties.
