Get Out! Tunkhannock is bringing families and neighbors together through free, outdoor-based programs designed to promote community connection and active lifestyles. The initiative was founded by Kevin Conner, a Lake Winola resident and co-owner of New Shoe Store Plus & Lifestyles Clothing. Alongside his wife Mauri, a longtime local and youth swim coach, Kevin is involved in coaching soccer, Little League, and other youth activities, all of which inspired him to create a more inclusive outlet for recreation in the area.

“There are great team sports and programs here,” Kevin says, “but there was an opportunity for something broader, something that could engage families in alternative and less-represented outdoor and social activities.”
Get Out! Tunkhannock offers a growing mix of mini-camps, family hikes, kids’ classes, and community events like Glow-in-the-Park and Pedal! Out. Most events fill up quickly, with many drawing waitlists.
Each Get Out! Tunkhannock program is designed to offer something different, whether it’s a glow-in-the-dark scavenger hunt, a beginner-friendly hike, or a creative kids’ workshop. The goal is to give families access to fun, low-pressure ways to be active and engaged outdoors.

“We want to make trying something new as easy and inviting as possible,” Kevin says.
The variety is intentional, there’s something for every age, interest, and comfort level.

As the organization looks ahead, goals include expanding its reach, building new partnerships, and continuing to offer unique and engaging programming. Get Out! Tunkhannock is always looking for new ideas, volunteers to lead activities, and community members to help spread the word.
